AZFB Legislative Ag Fest Draws Over 50 Legislators

ARIZONA, January 19, 2007 – The Arizona Farm Bureau, host to the annual Legislative Agricultural Festival at the State Capitol, drew 53 Arizona Legislators. Eighty Farm Bureau members hosted their state senators and representatives and introduced them to agricultural products from counties throughout Arizona.

Every year in January the Arizona Farm Bureau hosts state legislators so that farmers and ranchers have an opportunity to speak out on behalf of their industry. The evening program allows farmers and ranchers to talk face to face with legislators about critical issues such as water, immigration and animal identification.

Kevin Rogers, a farmer and President of the Arizona Farm Bureau, stated “AgFest is a great opportunity for legislators, farmers and ranchers. It allows our leaders access to the lawmakers and it allows the lawmakers an opportunity to listen to people who are out there growing Arizona’s food. It helps remind them that the food on their dinner table starts with the people who grow it.”

Legislators were treated to green corn tamales from Cochise County; chili from Pima County, lamb from Pinal County, steak from Yavapai and Coconino County; milk, ice cream sandwiches and citrus from Maricopa County, bean dip and chips from Graham County, vegetables and fresh produce from Yuma County; Arizona Caviar (salsa) from Greenlee County, pulled pork from Navajo County, beef kabobs from Mohave County and assorted homemade deserts.
