AZFB Partners with Tapino Kitchn and Wine Bar to Promote Arizona Agriculture
Did you know that “Locavore” is the official “Word of 2007” chosen by the New Oxford American Dictionary? Coined a few years ago by a group of women in San Francisco, locavore refers to someone who only eats foods that are locally grown and produced.
When Chef/Owner James Porter of Tapino Kitchen & Wine Bar learned about the new addition to the dictionary, he couldn’t help but create a menu that highlights our local bounty. From artisan cheeses and dairy, to meats, shrimp and vegetables, Arizona is home to some of the best ingredients in the land. And we have dozens of vineyards, some of which produce highly rated bottles that have won national and international awards.
On Sunday, February 24th, Tapino Kitchen & Wine Bar will hold our first annual “Locavore Wine Dinner.” Every bite and sip of the five course dinner will come from an Arizona farmer, artisan, or winemaker.
“Our Locavore Wine Dinner is a celebration of the talents of food growers, producers and wine makers across the state, and a chance for me to show off the quality and diversity of Arizona products,” says Chef Porter.
For this dinner Chef Porter is working hand-in-hand with the Arizona Farm Bureau, local producers, and purveyors to highlight the vast array of Arizona foods and products, and create a spectacular event that brings together the goodness of the earth and impressive business minds to one dinner table. It’s nothing short of a recipe for success: individually, locally and statewide.
Since opening Tapino Kitchen & Wine Bar more than three years ago, Chef Porter continually chooses to use local foods, sustainable seafood, environmentally safe detergents, energy efficient light bulbs, and buys from independently owned companies whenever possible. Using quality ingredients in his dishes is critical, and he’s willing to take the extra effort to seek out goods and services that benefit the community.
The “Locavore Wine Dinner” at Tapino will be held on Sunday, February 24th at 6:30pm. The five-course menu with wines is $75 a person, plus tax and gratuity.
