FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How much does it cost?
Event tickets are $50. The cost is the same regardless of the age of the attendee.
What do I wear?
Whatever you want! This is an outdoor event and we want you to be comfortable. We do encourage you to wear a hat for our Derby Hat Contest!
Do I have to participate in the Hat Contest?
Absolutely not, but we do love to see all the hats! Any kids that wear a hat will automatically receive a gift a check-in. Adults are encourage but it is not required. If you want to participate in the fun, wear your best homemade or store bought hat and our judges will pick their favorites during the pig races. Be ready to strut your stuff if you make it into the Top 5!
When should I arrive:
Check-in begins at 5:00pm and pig races start at 6:00pm. We encourage you to arrive early to get checked-in and then visit our friends from Old Ellsworth Brewery and our amazing appetizer bar. You will have to have your bets placed for the races prior to 6:00pm. We will have opportunities for photos with one of the racing pigs prior to the races at our photo booth.
How do the pig races work?
When you arrive at the event you will receive a racing packet that introduces you to the pigs for the evening. You will review the racers and then make your way to the betting booth to make your selections. At the betting booth you will let our staff know which pig you think will win each race. There will be 5 races. If your pig wins you will receive raffle tickets that will put you in a drawing for some fun prizes and of course bragging rights. NO money is required for the pig races.
Where does the money for the evening go?
All funds raised during the evening will benefit the Arizona Farm Bureau Educational Farming Company. This Education Foundation is the main funding source for our Ag in the Classroom Program that provides agricultural education to schools K-12 across the state. Last year, Ag in the Classroom programming reached over 153,000 students. This event helps make that possible! Every $20 raised allows us to reach a classroom full of students with education about our food and fiber in Arizona! For more information about Ag in the Classroom visit www.azfbaitc.org
