FARM First Reader Books

FARM First Reader Series
Through a variety of partners, the Arizona Farm Bureau has created the FARM First Reader Series to help students learn where their food and fiber come from. From animals on the farm to the cotton in their clothes and the food on their plates, students are introduced to the story of agriculture in an engaging, age-appropriate way. Each book supports early literacy by incorporating the first 100 Fry sight words, helping young readers build confidence while learning about farming and ranching in Arizona.

The 5 FARMS Early Reader Books were developed through a partnership between the Arizona Farm Bureau and the University of Arizona Cooperative Extension. A portion of the funding for the development of the First Readers was provided by a National Ag in the Classroom Build-Up Grant and the Arizona Foundation for Agricultural LiteracyTitles include: Farmers Grow Food, Animals on the Farm, Water on the Farm, Farmers Grow Clothes, and Ranchers and Wildlife

Ranchers Care for Animals and the Land was developed in partnership with the Arizona Farm Bureau and the Arizona Beef Council to highlight the relationship between ranchers, their animals, and the land.

A series of Specialty Crop First Readers was developed with funding from an Arizona Specialty Crop Grant. These books are level readers to engage both early and more experienced readers. Farmers Grow Specialty Crops is the first of the Series that introduces students to the many Specialty Crops. What Makes Crops Special is the 2nd book in the Series and provides a more expanded introduction to Specialty Crops. The 3rd book in the Series, Arizona Specialty Crops, is a great Reader for those more advanced kiddos.  This series is also available in Spanish!

Pigs on the Farm was developed through funding from the Arizona Pork Council. Students can learn about how pigs are cared for on the farm and the many things that pigs provide us.
