In the midst of ongoing and persistent drought conditions the Arizona State Legislature created the Water Irrigation Efficiency Program earlier this year. The legislation behind the program was spearheaded by Representative Tim Dunn. The program is designed to reimburse farmers up to $1,500 per acre, when they purchase and install qualifying irrigation systems that increase water efficiency for crop production by at least 20%. Funding is limited and available on a first come first served basis.

The University of Arizona’s Cooperative Extension is administering the program. Farmers who receive grant funding will be required to report data to the University of Arizona Cooperative Extension to further research efforts related to water efficiency, crop production, and other crop related factors.

The University of Arizona’s Cooperative Extension is now accepting applications. Additional details about the program and how to apply can be found at https://extension.arizona.edu/water-irrigation-efficiency-program.
