According to the 2012 Census of Agriculture, Arizona has more than 20,000 farms and ranches spanning across the state. In fact, farmers and ranchers are the primary managers of Arizona’s lands, with cropland and grazing land representing roughly three-quarters of the state’s land area (USDA, ERS, 2014). With Arizona agriculture contributing more than $17 billion to this state, this industry holds a critical position in this state’s continued growth.
This comprehensive study conducted by the University of Arizona’s College of Agriculture and Life Sciences will be a useful tool in understanding exactly what agriculture brings to our state.
