I recently came across an article that highlights food that might help us keep a healthy mane of hair. It was fun to discover that all the foods recommended, except one, are grown and raised in Arizona.
And I did some research on hair loss. Millions of men and women in the U.S. suffer from hair loss. According to a 2014 survey by the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery, approximately 35 million men in the United States suffer some type of hair loss, while approximately 21 million women are affected by hair loss. This means that about 1 in 5 Americans are losing their hair, with men representing a higher percentage of hair loss victims.
But there’s hope. Registered dietitian nutritionist Marisa Moore says sweet potatoes and chicken have high amounts of vitamin A and B vitamins, respectively, that could help boost hair growth, while RD Valerie Agyeman says the vitamin C in oranges could help improve collagen production. RDN Robin Foroutan, a spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, recommends that people who are struggling with hair deficiency try eating more bell peppers, beef, eggs and bone broth.
If you check out the entire article quoting these experts, you’ll discover that all the foods listed, except one, are available through Arizona agriculture. Can you guess the one we don’t raise or grow here in Arizona?
One of the more popular products (that continues to increase in popularity) is bone broth. One of our Farm Bureau leaders owns a business that provides healthy bone broth, including other bovine products to their customers. Arizona Grass Raised Beef includes in their product mix a bone broth you can buy online.
