The federal Bureau of Reclamation finalized its plans on Aug. 21 to operate the Colorado River for the next 10 years.
The bureau formally adopted the general framework it released weeks ago, as well as a newly released, more detailed 2-year operating plan for the river.
The framework does not set how much water various users can expect. Specific water cuts and releases must be spelled out in each 2-year operating plan.
The first largely follows a proposal made months ago by the Lower Basin states of Arizona, California and Nevada.
The three states would split 1.25 million acre-feet of mandatory cuts in 2027 and 2028 and volunteer to leave at least 700,000 acre-feet of additional water in Lake Mead through 2028, among other provisions.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
